The quality of a portfolio rests not only upon the investments within it, but also upon the way it meets with your tolerance for risk and your financial objectives. The following process takes these important factors, and others, into account in order for us to create a customized portfolio designed to help meet your standards and expectations – not only today but also in the future.

Strategic guidance
We utilize both internal and external research to help identify how we build your customized portfolio. Raymond James Equity Research is one of the largest research organizations in the brokerage industry, serving institutional investors domestically and abroad. We utilize them as our internal source for the allocation guidance on building your portfolio. We pare this strategic guidance with that of both Ibbotson and Morningstar to build long-term strategic allocation strategies. At a minimum this is a semiannual internal review.

Tactical guidance
Once we have the allocation established for our strategies, we use both quantitative and qualitative analysis taken from internal and external sources. We use this information to make short-term overweights or underweights to the strategies based on market outlook or by capitalizing on market trends. Our goal in this area is to provide strategies that can be dynamic enough to maintain risk discipline while being able to adapt to market conditions. At a minimum this is an internal quarterly review.

Enhanced due diligence
This part of the process is what really differentiates our team. We conduct an enhanced due diligence on investment options that we choose to use. It includes areas of risk, return and appropriate cost. We carry out this review through interviews and by using proprietary and external research tools. Finalization of our inventory solution occurs only after this annual review is completed.

Investment Policy Statement (IPS)
We have found that investing is a discipline that should be governed much like a well-run pension plan. So we assist in the design of your IPS to provide specific, tailored and unemotional rules for your portfolio. Among other areas, your IPS gives all details of portfolio construction, ongoing reviews, risk parameters, and any applicable fiduciary responsibilities. Once agreed upon, this important document will serve as the basis for your customized portfolio.

Implementation of strategy & ongoing reviews
Now that your IPS is complete, we can implement your solution. All investment transactions are done with tax appropriate considerations and are coordinated with other professional team members, including tax and legal counsel.

Because your personal and financial situation will change over time, an open dialog will play an important role in our relationship with you – in short, we want to know what’s happening in your life and you’ll want to know what’s happening in regard to your portfolio. So we will conduct portfolio reviews using historical risk and performance reporting and, with your input, we’ll determine the frequency of our review meetings. Typically they’re conducted quarterly and/or semiannually and are always scheduled at your convenience.

There is no assurance that any investment strategy will be successful. Investing involves risk and investors may incur a profit or a loss. Asset allocation and diversification do not ensure a profit or protect against a loss. Past performance is not indicative of future results.

Please note, changes in tax laws or regulations may occur at any time and could substantially impact your situation. Raymond James financial advisors do not render advice on tax or legal matters. You should discuss any tax or legal matters with the appropriate professional.
